Sacraments - Confirmation for Youth

The Sacrament of Confirmation is celebrated by the bishop. Seventh and eighth grade students attend special classes for two years prior to the reception of the Sacrament of Confirmation. The date of the celebration of Confirmation is set by the bishop; normally held in the fall when the Confirmandi are freshmen in High School. There is much preparation for this sacrament, and its reception may be delayed if a family is not regularly participating in Sunday Mass.

High School students interested in celebrating the Sacrament of Confirmation should contact Melissa Novak at 219-769-1755, ext 308. Classes for high school students that didn’t make Confirmation the fall of freshman year, typically begin in the September.

Adults interested in celebrating Confirmation participate in an 8-week class that begins the  late winter through early Spring. It usually begins during Lent, and Confirmation is celebrated at the Cathedral at Pentecost.
