Education - RCIA

Baptism, Confirmation and the First Eucharist are also called the Sacraments of Initiation.

The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) is the process whereby unbaptized adults are prepared to receive the Sacraments of Initiation. Sessions are held on Monday evenings in the Parish Center, from September until after Easter. Sessions are open to any person seeking to join the Catholic Faith, anyone who is Catholic but needs to complete their Sacraments of Initiation, or anyone who would like to refresh their knowledge of the Catholic Faith. The session format is intended to encourage discussion and questions, and is held in an informal manner. Those who complete the R.C.I.A. process celebrate the sacraments at the Easter Vigil.  Please contact the Faith Formation Office at 219-769-2295 or Tom Maicher at 219-226-4807 to learn more.

Adults who are baptized in another Christian tradition and are interested in becoming Catholic should also contact the parish office to discuss the process of formation leading to Reception into Full Communion with the Catholic Church.

If an adult has been baptized as a Catholic and has celebrated their First Eucharist, but have never been Confirmed, they are encouraged to call the parish in order to enroll in formation classes held each year after Easter in order to prepare for Confirmation celebrated by the Bishop in the cathedral, usually on Pentecost Sunday.
