                  Welcome!

Dear Friends:

It is a pleasure to invite you to Our Lady of Consolation Web Site. I hope that as you browse through this site, you will feel welcome to come and visit us at any time. You will be most welcome by the members of our Church Community.

Our Lady of Consolation Statue in front of the ChurchMany people drive along Taft St. (Route 55) in Merrillville. As people travel north and south they pass by a stone Church structure with a bell tower to the side, a Parish Center, and a priest residence. All of these structures are brick and stone. We call these imposing structures Our Lady of Consolation Parish Complex.

Yet, a parish is not bricks and stones. A Parish is People - living stones; we are people who come from every nationality, race, and way of life. We are people who gather in the Church building to praise God in the celebration of the Eucharist. It is here that the Sacraments of Baptism, Matrimony, Reconciliation, Anointing of the Sick, and Confirmation are celebrated at various times. We also were privileged to have the Sacrament of Holy Orders (Priesthood) celebrated two times in our parish church.

We are people young and old who gather not only to celebrate Sacraments but to learn of faith in our Parish Education Center. We have a Faith Formation Program and a Youth program for the parish.

Our Lady of Consolation has an outreach program: We have a St. Vincent de Paul Society which sponsors Dial-a-Prayer 219-769-2607. Dial-a-Prayer is to provide spiritual inspiration. We also have our Sunday Mass broadcast on Relevant Radio WWCA (1270 AM) every Sunday from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. You are most welcome to listen to this broadcast.

May God Bless you and your family.

Sincerely yours in the Lord Jesus,

Father Joseph E. Vamos
